Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s Favourite Movies

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are major stars, both having acted in a vast range of movies, including many blockbusters.  This week, there is much in the media about the new film Deadpool & Wolverine, in which they both star, as Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine is the latest movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  It is due for release this week, on 25th July in the UK and on 26th July in the US.  As interest in these two stars and their upcoming film reaches fever pitch, they have taken time out to speak with Frederico Furzan, who has written a piece for Letterboxd* about Reynolds and Jackman’s favourite films.  Each of them chose their four favourite movies and talked about their choices. 

Hugh Jackman’s four favourite movies are:

Singin’ In the Rain (1952)  
The Deer Hunter (1978)
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Gallipoli (1981)

While Ryan Reynold’s four favourite movies are:

Rebecca (1940)
Gaslight (1944)
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
Grosse Ponte Blank (1997)

Their favourite movies cover quite a range of cinematography!

We are always pleased when Daphne du Maurier’s work is chosen as the most popular novel, short story or film.  So we love the fact that Ryan Reynolds has chosen the most popular of the various versions of Rebecca to be made for cinema and television.  Alfred Hitchcock’s film Rebecca, released in 1940, was his first Hollywood movie and won Best Picture at the Oscars.  It starred Joan Fontaine as the nameless narrator, Laurence Olivier as Maxim and Judith Anderson as Mrs Danvers.  It is a film that has never gone out of fashion and remains as much loved today as it was when it was first shown back in the 1940s.   How great that movie star, Ryan Reynolds, with all the thousands of films there are to choose from, picked Rebecca as one of his top four favourite movies.
