Today we celebrate Daphne du Maurier’s birthday

Daphne du Maurier c1938

On this day in 1907, Daphne du Maurier was born, so join us as we celebrate the 116th anniversary of her birth.

If you are in Fowey today, perhaps because you are attending the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature, you might decide to come along to see the Lennie Goodings event Virago at 50, which takes place in the Town Hall at 4pm.  Lennie is the Chair of feminist publisher Virago Books, the current publisher of Daphne du Maurier’s works.  Lennie will discuss Virago and her memoir A Bite of the Apple: A Life with Books, Writers and Virago this afternoon.

Alternatively, you might choose to walk to one of the many places in and around Fowey, associated with Daphne du Maurier’s books, or find a cosy place to sit and read something of Daphne’s writing.

If you are in the comfort of your own home, wherever that may be across the world, you might celebrate Daphne’s birthday by reading one of her short stories, making a start on one of her novels, or watching one of the films made from her fiction.

Whatever you are doing, let’s all say Happy Birthday to Daphne!
