Rebecca musical to have English language premiere in London in 2023
We are very excited to be able to tell you that the Michael Kunze and Sylvester Levay musical version of the famous novel Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, is finally set to be performed in front of UK audiences on the London stage.
The production was first staged in the German language in Vienna in 2006 and then toured across the world, most recently returning to Vienna in September of this year. The show’s English language premiere takes place at the Charing Cross Theatre, London, on Monday, 4th September 2023 and runs until 18th November.
The musical is based on Daphne du Maurier’s 1938 novel Rebecca and tells the story of a young woman who marries a wealthy widower, only for the new husband’s past to come to haunt the couple.
Plans for Christopher Hampton’s English language version of the show had been made on several occasions during the past eleven years, with hopes of shows on both Broadway and the London Stage, but these were always thwarted. Famously, tickets even went on sale on Broadway for a 2013 show before plans were scrapped.
So, with huge joy, we can confirm that the long-awaited English language premiere will be performed at the Charing Cross Theatre, London, on 4th September 2023, directed by Alejandro Bonatta, and featuring an eighteen-piece orchestra.
The cast and further members of the creative team will be announced shortly.
Tickets are on sale via the Charing Cross Theatre website here.
