A day-by-day look at the events taking place at Fowey Festival – Sunday 12th May
Today, the festival brings you a wide range of events.
Sarah Harkness talks about the life and work of Victorian publishers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan, about whom she has written in her book Literature for the People. Madeleine Olivia talks about her book Make it Vegan: Simple Plant-Based Recipes for Everyone, and Tiffany Murray presents a talk about her book My Family and Other Rock Stars.
Light over Liskeard
At the early evening event, Louis de Bernières will be talking about his book, Light Over Liskeard, in Fowey Parish Church at 6pm. Louis de Bernières is, of course, most famous for his novel Captain Corelli's Mandolin. In his latest book, Light over Liskeard, a quantum cryptographer convinced of civilisation's fall embarks on a self-sufficient life in the Cornish countryside.
Richard Trethewey
The day ends with the Richard Trethewey Trio, in concert in Fowey Town Hall at 8pm. Richard is a singer, fiddle and cittern player, delivering his distinct take on Cornish music. Steve Hawker and Neal Jolly are joining Richard on stage tonight. Together, they will include music from Richard's new album Two Halves and show films to accompany the songs. In particular, Richard will be performing his single Frenchman's Creek, inspired by Daphne du Maurier's novel of the same name.
This year, we are delighted to say that the Fowey Festival of Arts and Literature has a physical programme again, something that has been missing for the last couple of years and is now back by popular request. You will be able to pick up a copy of the programme at The Royal Fowey Yacht Club, Fowey Parish Church, Fowey Town Hall, and some of the shops in the town. You can also see the brochure and download it at the Fowey Festival website home page (scroll down the page to - Download the 2024 programme) https://www.foweyfestival.com/
