The BFI Southbank is showing Don’t Look Now on three evenings in September

A still from early in the film Don’t Look Now, when John has pulled his daughter out of the lake that she has drowned in.

The film Don’t Look Now, based on the short story by Daphne du Maurier and directed by Nicholas Roeg, has gained cult status since it was first released in the UK in 1973.  It will be screened at the BFI Southbank on three evenings in September.

The film stars Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland as John and Laura Baxter, a couple who face the tragedy of the death of their daughter as the story begins.  They travel to Venice, where they meet two women who claim to be able to communicate with their dead daughter.  The film tells the story of what happens to John and Laura as they struggle with their grief among the gloomy, narrow streets and canals of Venice, the anxiety of a murderer at large, and the shock of their son becoming unwell back in England.  This is a genuinely gripping and frankly terrifying film, and one that is definitely best seen on the big screen at the cinema.

The film will be shown on Tuesday, 10th September 2024, at 20:45, Wednesday, 11th September 2024, at 12.30pm, Thursday, 26th September 2024, at 20:50 and Sunday, 29th September 2024 at 18:10.

Tickets are available for sale now.
