New British Television Serial, The Wives, Draws Inspiration from Rebecca

Tamzin Outhwaite, Jo Joyner, Angela Griffin and Christine Bottomley in The Wives

The brand new television serial, The Wives, created by Helen Black, draws inspiration from Daphne du Maurier's iconic 1938 novel Rebecca.  The series is currently airing on Channel 5.

In a conversation with the Radio Times, Helen explained that the character Annabelle, played by Christine Bottomley, has mysteriously died before the story begins but is seen in flashbacks and photographs.  She is spoken about with great deference by her three sisters-in-law and is held up as an angel.  Yet, funnily enough, her husband quickly finds a new, much younger partner, which arouses suspicion.  Angela Griffin, Tamzin Outhwaite, and Jo Joyner take on the roles of the three sisters-in-law and best friends who try to solve the family mystery.

The Wives is a very modern take on a classic story, and with such a strong cast, it is sure to be hugely entertaining and watchable.
