Daphne du Maurier Society of North America April 2025 Event - It's Raining Men... in the novels of Daphne du Maurier!
Don't Miss "The Male Narrators in the Novels" Saturday, 5th April 2025 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Leonard Cox, Vice President of the Daphne du Maurier Society of North America, will explore the male narrators in a number of Daphne du Maurier's novels and one of her short stories.
This review of highly charged literary testosterone will include a brief description of the work and narration in Julius (1933), My Cousin Rachel (1951), The Scapegoat (1957), The House on the Strand (1969), and Not After Midnight (1971).
In addition, Cox will ask the meeting participants to think about the motivation behind Daphne du Maurie's choices for the narrator: Did her publishers coerce her into using a male voice? Was the author just more comfortable with the male voice, especially since she spent most of her young life wanting to be a boy? Or was it that Daphne du Maurier's keen storytelling skills fundamentally guided her to understand that a male narrator was the more suitable voice for a particular work?
Joining Cox will be Broadway Veteran Adam Flemming. Flemming will draw upon his star roles in Wicked and Hairspray to read short excerpts from several literary works.
The event talked place Saturday, 5th April 2025 1:00pm - 3:00pm at 5214 Palomar Lane, Dallas, TX 75229.
Tea will be served.
ZOOM is available for this meeting.
