A day-by-day look at the events taking place at Fowey Festival – Wednesday 17th May
The Bookshop Band
We are happy to be able to tell you that an extra event has been added to the programme today. The Bookshop Band are running a songwriting workshop from 10am – 12 noon in the Parish Hall. Tickets can be purchased online or at the booking office in the Royal Fowey Yacht Club. The cost will be £10.
In the Town Hall at 11am, the queen of Cornish fiction, Liz Fenwick and new author Becky Hunter will discuss their new books with Veronica Henry. Then at lunchtime (12.30pm – 1.30pm) in the Parish Church, Arkangel will bring us a recital called As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning, based on the works of Laurie Lee. This event is free, but if you would like to make a donation, proceeds will go to the Festival.
At 2pm in the Town Hall, Kate London, a former detective in the Metropolitan Police turned crime writer, talks about that career switch, her writing and the process of having a novel commissioned for television. Then, at 4pm, also in the Town Hall, Serena Trowbridge presents The Past is Still Close to Us: Reading Rebecca as Gothic. Serena explains what Gothic as a genre means and how Daphne du Maurier played with that in her novel Rebecca.
Ann Widdecombe
Ann Widdecombe presents the first evening event today. It takes place at 6pm in the Parish Church, and she will be entertaining us with talk of her life both in the political arena and since.
Johnny Cowling
Then at 8pm in the Parish Church, it will be time for an evening of comedy with Johnny Cowling. This is an evening that is certain to have you laughing until the tears run down your faces as Johnny dazzles you with his quick wit and Cornish charm.
