Daphne du Maurier documentary - filming in Oxford
Arte, the company who are making a documentary about Daphne du Maurier for French television, have been filming in Oxford. The person being filmed was Laura Varnam, an expert on Daphne du Maurier, who is known to many because of the popular talks and book group sessions that she presents at the Fowey Festival of Art and Literature each year.
Filming took place during the Bank Holiday weekend in the beautiful surroundings of University College, Oxford where Laura is a lecturer in Old and Middle English Literature.
Daphne du Maurier was dismissed as a romantic novelist for many years and, while she is now gradually gaining the recognition that she deserves as a writer, it is important to hear the views of an academic who has such a clear understanding of her work.
