Daphne du Maurier's Passion for the Sea
Come and listen to historian and author Dr Helen Doe talking in Fowey Town Hall at 6pm this evening on the subject of Daphne du Maurier's passion for the sea.
Helen is a maritime historian and a member of the Slade family of Polruan, on whom Daphne based her first novel The Loving Spirit, so this is a subject very dear to her heart.
She will discuss such novels a Rebecca, I'll Never Be Young Again, Frenchman's Creek, Jamaica Inn and The King's General. She will reveal the events that inspired Daphne's fiction including the real tragedy that was behind the sinking of the yacht in which Rebecca's body was found.
