Olivia de Havilland dies age 104
Hollywood star Olivia de Havilland, who celebrated her 104th birthday on 1st July, died yesterday, in Paris. To nearly everyone she is probably best remembered for her role in the 1939 film Gone With the Wind. Olivia was nominated four times for a best actress Academy Award, and won twice, for To Each His Own (1946) and The Heiress (1949).
To us, at the Daphne du Maurier Website, we remember her most for her role as Rachel in the 1952 film of Daphne du Maurier’s novel My Cousin Rachel, opposite Richard Burton as Philip Ashley, his first major role.
