Write & Shine with the London Library on the 115th anniversary of Daphne du Maurier's birth – 13th May 2022
Why not celebrate the 115th anniversary of Daphne du Maurier's birth on 13th May 2022, by joining Write & Shine at the British Library Reading Room for a 90-minute virtual writing workshop called 'Landscape & Imagination'. This is the third of four workshops celebrating the spirit of adventure in the women of London Library, especially those who wrote evocatively of travel and place. This session takes author Daphne du Maurier as inspiration for writing.
Daphne du Maurier joined The London Library in 1952, having established her reputation with early works such as Rebecca (1936) and Jamaica Inn (1938). Although born in London, du Maurier spent much of her life amongst the dramatic landscapes of Cornwall, where many of her books are set and where she gained the freedom she desired.
Writer Gemma Seltzer will guide the group through a range of writing exercises to prompt new fiction, poetry and life-writing. With her, you will consider du Maurier's work and how you can use your immediate surroundings as inspiration in your writing, blending fact and fiction.
This writing workshop takes place in the early morning light, from 7.30am to 9.15am, as Write & Shine believe the first part of the day is the best time to think, dream and imagine. In their workshops, you won't be expected to share your writing, which offers great freedom and encourages all kinds of unexpected ideas to emerge.
Login at 7.30am for a 7.45am start. You will be sent a Zoom link a few days before the workshop (if you do not receive it, please check your junk file or email events@londonlibrary.co.uk).
If you would like to start your day with a burst of creativity, click on this link and book your place.
The ticket price is £22.00. The sale of tickets ends on 12th May 2022.
