A Day by Day look at the events taking place at Fowey Festival Friday 13th May

Some people might be superstitious about Friday 13th being an unlucky day, but have no fear this time because we have two reasons to consider it a very good day indeed!  Firstly today, Friday 13th May is the day we celebrate the birth of Daphne du Maurier 115 years ago, and secondly, we have a great Fowey Festival line-up for you again today.

The day begins with Jane Newbery, already known for her children's poetry, introducing us to Hoyden's Trove, her debut poetry collection for adults.  Then, at lunchtime, the Liskeard Poets entertain with their amazing range of voices.  Next, the Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch Memorial Fund, also known as the Q fund, presents We Shall All Be Changed.  Unfortunately, due to illness, Julia Grigg will not be taking part, but Bert Biscoe is kindly stepping into the breach and will join Kim Hicks in this fascinating event about Q and the three women with whom he was most intimately connected, his sister, Mabel, his wife and the girl who would have married his son, had he survived WW1.

Dr Helen Taylor returns to the festival to talk about her book, Why Women Read Fiction: The Stories of Our Lives.  Then John Hudson, Chief Survival Instructor to the UK military, presents his talk, How To Survive.  Friday night is film night, and the choice of film this year is The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.  This award-winning adaptation of the book of the same name is an absolute must-see, so do join us for this lovely evening event.
