A Review of The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë by Chris Main
Chris Main has written several excellent articles for the Daphne du Maurier website. Today he brings us a review of Daphne du Maurier's biography The Infernal World of Branwell Brontë (1960). Although Daphne had written biographies of her father and her ancestors in Gerald: A Portrait (1934) and The du Mauriers (1937), this was her first attempt at writing about someone outside her family. While never claiming to be an academic scholar, she produced an excellent and insightful biography of the overlooked and previously maligned brother of the Brontë sisters, Charlotte, Emily and Anne.
