Over the next few days, we are going to tell you about some of the auction lots that might interest you.
Firstly, there are several lovely early books by  Daphne du Maurier.  These include two first editions, and that is what we are going to tell you about today.

A first edition of The King's General

The King's General is Daphne du Maurier's exciting novel about the English Civil War in the West.  The book is narrated by Honor Harris, who has been described as one of fiction's most original heroines and probably the best of all of Daphne's female characters.  The King's General was the first book Daphne wrote at Menabilly.  This copy is a 1946 first edition, hardback, in dustwrapper.  There are some minor chips, a little discolouration and foxing, and a small ink mark to the dustwrapper.  Overall, it is in Good Plus condition.  Copies of this book can easily reach prices of £80 - £100, so get bidding so that you can become the owner of this wonderful novel.

A first edition of The Young George du Maurier: A Selection of his Letters 1860-1867

The Young George du Maurer: A Selection of his Letters 1860 – 1867 was edited by George's granddaughter Daphne du Maurier and published in 1951, the same year she wrote My Cousin Rachel.    George du Maurier's grandson, and Daphne's cousin, Peter Davies, collaborated on the work for this book, and it was published by his publishing Company, Peter Davies, London.  Peter Davies is a fascinating man in his own right, being one of the five sons of Daphne's Aunt and Uncle Sylvia and Arthur Llewelyn Davies and the boys about whom J.M. Barrie wrote Peter Pan.  This book is a 1951 first edition, hardback, in dustwrapper.  There are chips and minor discolouration to the dust wrapper and page edges.  Overall, the book is in Good Plus condition.

This title is one of the more difficult to find of Daphne du Maurier's books.  With a biographical appendix by Derek Pepys Whiteley and illustrations by George du Maurier, this is a fascinating book and a must-have for true du Maurier enthusiasts.
