Full Version of documentary “Let’s pretend: The Make Believe World of Daphne du Maurier” I’ve seen a portion of the 1977 documentary “Let’s pretend: The Make Believe World of Daphne du Maurier” on YouTube but am desperately trying locate the full version. It was directed by her son Christian Browning and produced by Banner Pictures and Westward Television. I believe the Westward TV archives are at a museum called The Box in Plymouth and am going to contact them about this but wondered if anyone on here had a full copy or knew if one was already available? I know the website owner Ann is always very helpful (met her at the Fowey Lit Fest a few years ago) so thought here was the best place to ask. | Thu 28/11/24 06:43 AM |

Let's Pretend - The Make-Believe World of Daphne du Maurier was initially released as a video and then later as a DVD, but it has not been readily available for some years now. It might be possible to find a second-hand copy through E-bay or similar sites. On the Daphne du Maurier website, we have some long extracts from the film. You will find it by going to the click-on menu on the right-hand side of the Home Page and clicking on Video and Films. The extracts are under the following headings – The Make-Believe World of Daphne du Maurier, The Loving Spirit, Jamaica Inn, Rebecca, Frenchman's Creek, Menabilly, Mary Anne and Vanishing Cornwall. It is lovely to see Daphne du Maurier talking to Cliff Mitchelmore. I hope this helps. Ann (on behalf of the Daphne du Maurier website). | Posted on Thu 28/11/24 07:16 AM |

Thanks so much Ann. I will take a look. I have found a copy at the university of Exeter and would like to take look at the Maureen Baker Munson collection there anyway so a good excuse for trip down in the coming year. :). Thanks again - you are truly the DDM oracle and I love this website. | Posted on Mon 02/12/24 12:17 PM |

Hi Ann, I'm over the moon, thanks to your advice I found a copy on eBay. I had not even thought to look there. Ive persuaded my other half to buy me for Xmas - so roll on 25th - not been this elite for Xmas since I was a little girl!!!
I was thinking if I get this digitally converted then maybe you could add it to the website for others as there's so little actual footage of her available - obviously as long as there won't be a case of copyright infringement. Im guessing as 2/3rds is already available online anyway this might be ok? Possible with it being over 30 years old it may be beyond the scope of copyright - perhaps you might know? | Posted on Mon 02/12/24 12:37 PM |
